Therapist | Reclaim Your Story
Melanie Gawlik is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who believes that healing begins with reclaiming your story. Whether it’s untangling past pain or facing present challenges, Melanie partners with her clients to help them become the authors of their own healing journey.
Melanie earned her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Our Lady of the Lake University. With over six years of experience, she has worked extensively in trauma recovery, particularly with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Her client-centered style welcomes everyone—from couples struggling with jealousy or disconnection, to teens exploring identity, to children facing family conflict or bullying. No matter the situation, Melanie’s goal is to create a safe and affirming space where individuals can speak freely and heal at their own pace.
Therapy Approach
Melanie uses a creative and collaborative approach grounded in Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Collaborative Language Systems. She especially appreciates the flexibility of Narrative Therapy, where clients are encouraged to externalize problems, develop their own characters, and shift the plotline of their lives. Melanie believes that clients are the experts in their own experiences and enjoys bringing their interests—whether it’s anime, video games, or storytelling—into the therapeutic space to build trust and connection.
Her therapeutic philosophy is deeply relational. Even when working one-on-one, she recognizes the impact of relational dynamics on mental health. As social beings, our stories often involve the people around us, and Melanie helps clients explore these connections while developing healthier communication, boundaries, and self-worth.
Whether you're recovering from trauma, facing emotional overwhelm, or seeking to improve your relationships, Melanie is here to support you. Therapy with her is a collaborative journey—one that honors your voice, your timing, and your goals.
“You are the author of your story—and the next chapter can begin today.”
Outside the Office
Melanie is a lifelong learner and adventurer with a wide range of hobbies. When she’s not in session, you might find her riding horses, knitting, playing video games, or watching anime. She loves animals (especially her sugar gliders—ask her about them!) and believes that joy, creativity, and curiosity are essential parts of the healing process.
